The channel was launched on 15 January 2003 as UK Bright Ideas, initially for the Freeview digital terrestrial television platform, but later expanded to other platforms.

However, in January 2005, it began showing programmes branded by UKTV Sport, presumably to increase potential audience figures by extending the programme to Freeview viewers.
