Porter grew up in nearby Mississauga, Ontario, attended John Fraser Secondary School, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School and Burnaby Central Secondary School, and played club soccer for the Erin Mills Soccer Club and the Mississauga Falcons before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program in 2007.
