He is a relative of All Black great Zinzan Brooke and was named in New Zealand 19-man squad for the 2011 ANZAC Test.
It was widely reported that he signed a contract to play rugby league for Graham Lowe's Manly club in the early 1990s, but subsequently changed his mind and stayed with rugby union.
