The company was originally founded in 1934 by Frank Bustard, the Passenger Traffic Manager for the White Star Line when the latter was merged with the Cunard Line the same year.
He served as Chairman of BFFS (British Field Sports Society) from 1994–1997 and was a member of the Public Affairs Committee (1980–1987) and is Vice President of the Great Bustard Group (2008-) which is re-introducing the Great Bustard to Great Britain.
Conservation efforts by the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the United Arab Emirates have given some hope for the future of this Bustard.
While a major of the 45th, MacQueen presented a specimen of a bustard species he had shot to the British Museum (Natural History) and in 1832 the bird was named for him as the MacQueen's Bustard, Chlamydotis macqueenii, by J. E. Gray.
The name Turkey relates directly back to the bustard or bush turkey shot by Captain Cook's crew back in 1770 when they discovered the area aboard HMS Endeavour.
