Anadromous fish such as Coho salmon and steelhead are found in local streams but are threatened by overfishing and habitat destruction caused by logging practices.
The Puget Sound/Strait of Georgia ESU in Washington is an NMFS "Species of Concern".

SPAWN’s water conservation program is focused on reducing the impacts of stormwater runoff on local streams and ensuring adequate in stream flow and spawning and rearing habitat for coho salmon and steelhead in the Lagunitas Creek.

In 2008 SPAWN received the coveted Peter Behr Award from the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin and the prestigious Ted Wellman Award from the Marin Conservation League for their efforts towards preserving the coho salmon and their habitat.
Thanks to the efforts of volunteers over the decades there is now a strong run of Chum Salmon and an increasing run of Coho Salmon.
Four special-status animal species - California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii), coho salmon, steelhead trout, and tidewater goby are the focus of a June, 2010 Watershed Management Plan.
