10 unusual facts about human genome project

Charles DeLisi

DeLisi is recipient of numerous awards including the Presidential Citizens Medal, awarded to him by President Clinton for his seminal role in initiating the Human Genome Project.

Commemorating the significance of the Human Genome Project, the DOE installed a bronze plaque outside room F-202 at its Germantown, Maryland facility.

In 1985, as Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Health and Environmental Research Programs, DeLisi and his advisors proposed, planned and defended before the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Congress, the Human Genome Project.

Critical Art Ensemble

This participatory performance was titled Cult of the New Eve (or CoNE when abbreviated) and included a "communion" using a random library of the entire genome of the first female donor to the Human Genome Project taken from a blood sample.

Decade of the Mind

Although the initiative did not receive the level of funding as the Human Genome Project, it did serve to catalyze significant advances in our understanding of the brain particularly in the context of brain diseases.

HGP

Human Genome Project, is an international scientific research project with a primary goal of determining the sequence of chemical base pairs which make up DNA

Richard M. Myers

Myers' genome center contributed approximately 10 percent of the data in the public-sector Human Genome Project's efforts to sequence the human genome.

The Domination

They finish the Human Genome Project and are performing significant genetic alteration on mammalian organisms, including humans, by the mid-1970s.

Themes in Blade Runner

The first draft of the entire human genome was decoded on June 26, 2000, by the Human Genome Project, followed by a steadily increasing number of other organisms across the microscopic to macroscopic spectrum.

Wide area information server

François Schiettecatte left Human Genome Project at Johns Hopkins Hospital and started FS-Consult and developed his own variant of WAIS which eventually became ScienceServer, which was later sold to Elsevier Science.

Comparative genomics

With the publication of the large genomes of vertebrates in the 2000s, including human, the Japanese pufferfish Takifugu rubripes, and mouse, precomputed results of large genome comparisons have been released for downloading or for visualization in a genome browser.

Decipherment

The term has also been used to describe the analysis of the genetic code information encoded in DNA - see the Human Genome Project article for more on this.

Pallab Ghosh

Ghosh has covered subjects including the human genome project, cloning, stem cell research and genetically modified (GM) crops.

Philip Kitcher

Member NIH/DOE Working Group on the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of the Human Genome Project, 1995–1997.

Tsui Lap-chee

He was the President of Human Genome Organisation (HUGO), the international organization of scientists involved in the Human Genome Project, from 2000 to 2002.
