Cortinarius caperatus

Later it was transferred to Pholiota in 1887 by Pier Andrea Saccardo, and then Rozites (after mycologist Ernst Roze) by Finnish mycologist Petter Adolf Karsten in 1879, and was known as Rozites caperata (Pers.) P. Karst.

Eigenmannia vicentespelaea

Native to the São Domingos karst area in central Brazil, it is the only known South American knifefish to exclusively inhabit a subterranean habitat.

Giuseppe Cobolli Gigli

According to Pietro Valente, Cobolli Gigli was born from Nicolò Cobol (Capodistria 1861 - Trieste 1931), elementary school teacher and Italian irredentist, to which Trieste has dedicated a Karst trail (the Napoleon) for his creation of municipal recreation centers during the Habsburg times.

Jindřich Wankel

Studied as medical doctor he came to work into area of Moravský kras (Moravian Karst, today Czech Republic) in 1847 and since 1849 lived in Blansko.

Karst Hoogsteen

Karst Hoogsteen is famous in the biochemistry world for noting a new base pairing form in DNA, now called Hoogsteen base pairs.

Karst Shepherd

The Karst Shepherd is named after the Karst Plateau in Slovenia and Italy, and more generally after the Karst landscape that extends to Croatia and partly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the Gulf of Trieste to the Dinaric Alps.

The latter was collected in lowland dry forest, coastal scrub land, and in a coconut plantation, while P. decepticon was found in rainforest, lowland coastal forest, Casuarina forest, old settlements, coral karst scrubland, and along roadsides.

Slovene dialects

The first attempts to classify Slovenian dialects were made by Izmail Sreznevsky in the early 19th century, followed by Jan Niecisław Baudouin de Courtenay (focusing on Resia, Venetian Slovenia, Cerkno, and Bled), Karel Štrekelj (focusing on the Karst), and Ivan Scheinig (focusing on Carinthia).

There are over 50 species of plants and animals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act and more than 150 native trout streams, thousands of acres of wetlands and high mountain bogs, areas of karst terrain, abandoned coal mines and numerous recreational facilities within the Corridor H study area.

Zacatón

Zacatón (El Zacatón sinkhole) is a thermal water filled sinkhole belonging to the Zacatón system - a group of unusual karst features located in Aldama Municipality in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
