African Oystercatcher

The main threats faced by the bird are during the breeding season from disturbance by people, off-road vehicles driving on the beach, from attacks by dogs and predation by the Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus).

Ash Meadows killifish

This species was last seen in 1948 and is believed to have gone extinct in the early 1950s, likely as a result of habitat alteration and competition with and predation by introduced crayfish Procambarus clarkii, mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis), black mollies (Poecilia sphenops), and bullfrogs (Rana catesbiana).

Baw Baw frog

The cause of this reduction is unknown, but the usual suspects of predation by feral animals, habitat degradation, chytrid fungus and ozone layer depletion may each have contributed.

Blackish Cinclodes

The nominate subspecies C. a. antarcticus occurs on the Falklands where it is common on many smaller islands but scarce on West and East Falkland where it suffers from predation by introduced cats and rats.

Brachystegia glaucescens

The name is for instance found in a paper concerning the degradation of woodlands by elephant predation and fire in the northern part of the Gonarezhou National Park in SE Zimbabwe.

British White

The breed is hardy and thrifty, and the animals readily graze rough vegetation such as rushes, nettles or heather, and they keenly browse many trees and shrubs.

Cuban crocodile

A colony of this species at Gatorland, Florida, has exhibited what is strongly suspected to be pack-hunting behavior, which may explain the predation of prehistoric megafauna that coexisted with this species such as the giant sloth.

Cyclura rileyi cristata

Imported black rats and a feral raccoon have taken their toll on the population by direct predation.

Eutrephoceras

Puncture marks made by teeth on several Eutrephoceras fossils (such as E. campbelli, of the Trent River Formation in Vancouver) are cited as evidence of mososaur predation on this genus.

Galapagos Hawk

Due to human disturbance to their natural habitat, a dwindling food supply because of new predators introduced to the islands, and predation by humans, they are now extinct on the islands of Baltra, Daphne, Floreana, San Cristobal, and Seymour.

Gigantopithecus

However, younger, weak, or injured individuals may have been vulnerable to predation by tigers, pythons, crocodiles, machairodonts, hyenas, bears, and Homo erectus.

Glaucus atlanticus

atlanticus preys on other, larger pelagic organisms: the dangerously venomous Portuguese Man o' War Physalia physalis; the by-the-wind-sailor Velella velella; the blue button Porpita porpita; and the violet snail, Janthina janthina.

Guppy

For example, during the wet season from May to December, guppies in the Northern Range of Trinidad reduce their investment in reproduction regardless of predation level, possibly in response to decreased food resources.

Hagfish

Hagfish have also been observed actively hunting the red bandfish, Cepola haastii, in its burrow, possibly using their slime to suffocate the fish before grasping it with their dental plates and dragging it from the burrow.

Harmonia axyridis

axyridis, like other lady beetles or ladybirds, uses isopropyl methoxy pyrazine as a defensive chemical to deter predation, but also contains this chemical in its hemolymph at much higher concentrations than many other such species, along with species/genus-specific defensive compounds such as harmonine.

Lake Tota

The average water temperature of 13°C allowed for the introduction of rainbow trout (Onchorynchus mykiss) which created a valuable wild fishery (a mounted specimen in Restaurante Lucho, Aquitania, reportedly early in the 90's, weighed 7 kg) and cage culture aquaculture, but predation on native fish species as led to the now accepted extinction of the pez graso or grease fish (Rhizosomichthys totae) believed native to only this lake.

Maned rat

The rat is known to deliberately smear these hairs with poison from the bark of the Acokanthera schimperi, on which it chews, thus creating a defense mechanism that can sicken or even kill predators which attempt to bite it.

Mesozoic Marine Revolution

The Mesozoic Marine Revolution (MMR) is a term used to describe the rapid adaption to shell-crushing (durophagous) and boring predation in benthic organisms throughout the Mesozoic era, first coined by Geerat J. Vermeij (who based his work on Steven M. Stanley’s).

Oedignathus

inermis is preyed upon by birds such as the American black oystercatcher.

Palos Verdes Blue

There has also been observed predation on Palos Verdes blue by Western yellowjackets (Vespula pensylvanica) at the Defense Fuel Point location.

Pollicipes polymerus

Predators on gooseneck barnacles include the glaucous-winged gull (Larus glaucescens), the black oystercatcher (Haematopus bachmani), the ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceus) and the six-rayed star, Leptasterias hexactis.

Reef starfish

Found throughout New Zealand, S. australis is a keystone species in both the North and South Islands, playing an important role in mussel predation.

Saint Helena earwig

It is possibly extinct due to habitat loss as well as predation by introduced rodents and an introduced centipede (Scolopendra morsitans).

Taita Falcon

Reasons for its scarcity in East Africa possibly include competition for food and nest sites with the larger and more dominant Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and predation of young by the Peregrine Falcon, Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus) and owls.

Tupinambis

Predation by feral tegus may pose a threat to Florida's endangered wildlife, such as the Key Largo woodrat and the American Crocodile.

Vespula vulgaris

Common wasps are subject to predation by the honey buzzard, which excavates the nests to obtain the larvae.

White-throated Ground Dove

It has become extirpated from Guam (to USA) by predation from the introduced brown tree snake Boiga irregularis.

Zapata Rail

Predation by introduced Small Asian Mongooses and rats is a problem, and more recently, introduced African Sharptooth Catfish, Clarias gariepinus, have been identified as a major predator of rail chicks.

Zelus luridus

This species uses sticky traps as a predation strategy, which is also common to other species in the genus Zelus.
