Addis Alem

Addis Alem is also the name of one of the neighborhoods of Gondar.

Addis Alem, Shewa (also known as Ejersa) is the largest and best known, and is located in the Oromia Region.


Iyasu V

In his autobiography, Haile Selassie reports that when Italian Baron Raimondo Franchetti landed his plane in a field outside of Addis Alem, onlookers "noticed that inside it were a machine-gun as well as rifles and many cartridges" — implying these were to arm Iyasu's followers.

Nekemte

The first major road dates to the early 1930s, with a road that extended from the capital Addis Ababa west through Addis Alem, although the road was passable only by lorries for the 255 kilometers between Addis Alem and Nekemte.
