He is well known for coaching the Greater Boston Track club at the height of its marathon success, including marathoner Bill Rodgers, Alberto Salazar, Dick Beardsley and Greg Meyer.
Edelen was the first American to hold the world record since 1925, and (excepting Alberto Salazar's 2:08:13 at the 1981 New York City Marathon, which later proved to be short) the last until naturalized American Khalid Khannouchi (originally from Morocco) broke his own World Record at the London Marathon in 2002.
In 2010, Treasure was featured in a Runner's World magazine article for his work with Kara Goucher and Alberto Salazar.
Notable sections include Rono's 1982 victory over Alberto Salazar and Rono's arrest in 1986, when he was falsely accused of robbing six New Jersey banks.
He has also cauthored two running books with marathon legend Alberto Salazar, plus two books on bicycle touring and one on cross-country skiing.

Dick Beardsley (born March 21, 1956) is an American long-distance runner best known for his close finish with Alberto Salazar in the 1982 Boston Marathon.
