Minnaert recommends practicing first with a polarizer, then trying it without.
He studied at the Conservatory in Helsinki from 1895 to 1899, then continued his piano studies in Berlin with Ansorge, Berger and Busoni.
He was the first to observe the slight polarization dependence of the human eye, observed via the phenomenon now known as Haidinger's brush.
