The Superfast III was the first ship of the second pair (the former pair being Superfast I and Superfast II built in Germany) built for Attica Group's subsidiary Superfast Ferries at Kvaerner Masa-Yards for their Adriatic Sea services from Patras to Ancona.
The ship was built in 2002 as MS Superfast IX by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) in Kiel, Germany for Attica Group's subsidiary Superfast Ferries.
the new ship was also a Superfast ship as Spirits I & II this one was Superfast II a German built ferry completed in 1995 for Attica Enterprises's Subsidiary Superfast Ferries.
Following a detailed consultation and tendering process by the Scottish Executive, the Greek shipping company Superfast Ferries (owned by the Attica Group) were confirmed as the operator of the route.
