1902 Ōtani expedition

Between 1900 and 1902, Ōtani, a Buddhist priest, lived in London studying Western theology and came into contact with a number of European explorers including Aurel Stein and Sven Hedin.

Fakhrigah

In 1936 Aurel Stein, a British archaeologist and explorer wrote about the tomb and defensive constructions further along, and Wolfram Kleiss prepared sketches of the tombs.

Gulmarg

During the early part of the 20th century the famous Central Asian explorer Sir Marc Aurel Stein (1862–1943), made his home here in a tent between his expeditions.
