Collier was an avid fisherman and established the Izaak Walton Club at their Useppa Island resort.
It was named for Barron G. Collier, a wealthy Southwest Florida land owner and entrepreneur.
In 1922 Barron Collier began buying large areas of land in what was then southern Lee County.
After four years of neglect she was sold to an American company and then re-sold to Florida real estate entrepreneur Barron Gift Collier, Sr..
