Broun, Dauvit, “The Seven Kingdoms in De Situ Albanie: A Record of Pictish political geography or imaginary Map of ancient Alba”, in E.J. Cowan & R. Andrew McDonald (eds.), Alba: Celtic Scotland in the Medieval Era, (Edinburgh, 2000, rev. 2005).
The scientific name commemorates Christina Broun, Countess of Dalhousie (1786–1839), wife of George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie.
The Hall was built in 1757 by Samuel Swinfen to a design by architect Benjamin Wyatt, ( father of James Wyatt) and remained the home of the Swinfen and Swinfen Broun families for almost two hundred years.
In response to this, and as Broun is also on the House Science Committee, libertarian radio talk show host Neil Boortz spearheaded a campaign to run deceased biologist Charles Darwin against Broun as the Democrat candidate, with the intention of drawing attention to these comments from the scientific community and having him removed from his post on the House Science Committee.
