Whilst the BLF is usually associated with the left of the political spectrum, the Queensland BLF has historically been aligned with the right faction of the Australian Labor Party.
Whilst initially studying medicine, he completed a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education while working on building sites and becoming a member of the NSW Builders Labourers Federation.
Today the Eureka Flag has been adopted by a variety of groups, including the Builders Labourers Federation and the Australia First Party.
During the 1960s the church fell into disrepair, but the loss of the building altogether was prevented by a ban imposed by the Builders Labourers Federation in 1973.
