Thams received various honors including Gold medal for Norway's pavilion at the Exposition Universelle (1889), Knight First Class Order of St. Olav, Knight in the Swedish Order of the Polar Star and Knight of the French Legion of Honour.

During 1908, in partnership with Christian Thams, Christian Salvesen also invested in the construction of the first electric railway from Løkken to Thamshavn in Norway in support of their mining interests.
