After being passed over for the Blues GM job (losing out to Doug Armstrong), Kekäläinen returned to the Finnish Elite League to take the GM job with Jokerit.
On November 13, 2007, after a meltdown by the team in Los Angeles (losing 6–5 in OT after leading 4–0 with 7 minutes remaining in the game, Lites dismissed General Manager Doug Armstrong, and replaced them with the tandem of Brett Hull and Les Jackson.
Team general manager Doug Armstrong stated that they were interested in Wellwood but they had not signed him.
