The Sydney suburb of Ermington is named after Lockyer's residence, "Ermington House".
The Police Magistrate to Parramatta, Major Edmund Lockyer, purchased the land in 1827 and built the stone mansion Ermington - named after the parish in Devon, England, where his second wife, Sarah Morris, was born.
In 1826 Major Edmund Lockyer was sent to establish a military base with the aim to deter convicts, whalers and sealers and this first military outpost lasted five years.
