2 unusual facts about Edmund Ludlow


Ballylongford

King James 1 restored the castle to the O’Connors in 1607 but in 1651 during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, it was again captured, this time by Cromwellian forces under Edmund Ludlow.

Edmund Ludlow

Part of it, covering the years 1660–77, was discovered at Warwick Castle in 1970 and is now in the Bodleian Library.


George Stradling

He returned to Oxford when the fighting was over, and survived the threat of ejection by the Parliamentary Visitors in control of the university with the help of Edmund Ludlow, a prominent Parliamentarian and his nephew by marriage.

Richard Nelthorpe

Finding that the States-General had resolved to arrest them, Nelthorpe and Wade fled to Vevay in Switzerland, and were welcomed by Edmund Ludlow.
