Consisting purely of jazz versions of African American spirituals, it is one of a series of theme records recorded by the guitarist in 1962.


Angel in Your Arms

"Angel in Your Arms" has also been recorded by Lynn Anderson (I Love What Love Is Doing to Me 1977), Red Hurley (as "The Angel in Your Arms") (With Love 1978), Millie Jackson (Feelin' Bitchy 1977), Reba McEntire (Reba McEntire 1977) and Billie Jo Spears (I Will Survive 1979).

Been Around the World

The song sampled David Bowie's 1983 hit song "Let's Dance" and Roy Ayers's "Feelin’ Good"; it also featured a vocal interpolation of Lisa Stansfield's song "All Around the World", sung by The Notorious B.I.G. in the chorus.

Beggin' After Dark

Other hits from the album included "Sex Bowl", "Full Time", "Much Feelin' (And It Tastes Great)", "Buss One" featuring reggae singer Papa Reu, and "Baby I Love Ya" featuring Roger Troutman.

Comedian Patton Oswalt poked fun at the ads' apparent aggressiveness in a well-known humorous riff included on his 2003 album Feelin' Kinda Patton.

David Secter

Buckley's musical tastes expanded during the period that the album was written and the first track, "Strange Feelin", was directly inspired by Miles Davis' "All Blues" from Kind of Blue and the melody of the song is directly taken from the song.

The album contains the top 20 hit singles "Easy to Be Hard", "Eli's Coming", and "Celebrate"; the latter of which (along with the album's opening track "Feelin' Alright") featured the Chicago horn section.

The Story of Simon Simopath

"Pentecost Hotel" was released as a single with the non-album B-side, "Feelin' Shattered'." "Wings of Love" was the next single, also with a non-album B-side, "Requiem to John Coltrane." "Girl in the Park," from the second album All of Us featured the B-side, "C Side In Ocho Rios," which is an instrumental version of "In the Courtyard of the Stars."
