Recent research suggests that the song was originally composed by Johann Friedrich Anton Fleischmann.
According to Goretzki/Krickenberg (see sources below), the song "Schlafe mein Prinzchen Schlaf ein", often attributed to Mozart (KV350) or Bernhard Flies, was composed by Fleischmann.

Alexander J. Fleischmann translated the book Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy into German.
Its success led to a job offer from the court at Mannheim, Germany, where he stayed for the rest of his life, continuing to compose and to teach, his students including Johann Anton Friedrich Fleischmann (1766-1798), the pianist, and Carl Stamitz.
