Editor of the Communist Party newspaper "for intellectuals" Guangming Daily 光明日报 in the post-1949 era, Chu was purged during the Anti-Rightist campaign, following publication of an article entitled "The Party Dominates the World."

People's Daily and Guangming Daily both published the full text the next day with banner headlines and in a prominent position.

Most officials support the effort to root out pseudoscience in China, although the government still sends occasionally mixed signals, like one incident when a high-ranking official ordered the Guangming Daily to pull a letter critical of Hongcheng at the last minute.
