7 unusual facts about Guru Granth Sahib


Baba Nand Singh Ji

No monetary offerings are ever made in front of the Gurudwara's Guru Granth Sahib, as is the usual practice at other Gurdwaras, however a shortage of funds has occurred there.

Domeli, Kapurthala

The sanctum, a raised platform in the middle of the room, has the Thamm Sahib draped in cloth in the centre with the Guru Granth Sahib Ji seated on a palaki (palanquin).

Gurmukhī alphabet

The usage of Gurmukhi letters in Guru Granth Sahib meant that the script developed its own orthographical rules.

The 10 Sikh Gurus adopted the Proto-Gurmukhi script to write the Guru Granth Sahib, the religious scriptures of the Sikhs.

Eckankar

Linguistically, however, "Eckankar" derives from Ekankār or Ik Oankār (Punjabi Eka Omkāra), a name for God given by Guru Nānak and the very first word of the Mūl Mantra (recited everyday by Sikhs), the Japjī Sahib, and the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh holy scriptures).

The resting place of Jani Shah is present in Sri Hargobindpur city, in Gurdwara Damdama Sahib just across the pond, where presently Guru Granth Sahib is installed.
