The most important journal for aesthetics and philosophy of art, the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, is publishing a special issue commemorating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Principles of Art History in 2015, edited by Bence Nanay.
Lionello Venturi was influenced by the idealism of Benedetto Croce as well as the writing of Alois Riegl and Heinrich Wölfflin.
Between 1919–23, he initially studied law at, successively, universities in Munich, Berlin, and Marburg under faculty who included Heinrich Wölfflin, Adolf Goldschmidt and Werner Weisbach.
In Berlin and Marburg, he took courses in philosophy, psychology, and pedagogics under Hermann Cohen, Paul Natorp, Ernst Cassirer, Hermann Alexander Diels, and Heinrich Wölfflin.
