Terrorism in Yemen

A CIA-controlled Predator drone fired a Hellfire missile at an SUV in the Yemeni desert containing Qaed Salim Sinan al-Harethi, a Yemeni suspected senior al-Qaeda lieutenant believed to have been the mastermind behind the October 2000 USS Cole bombing that killed 17 Americans.

In November 2002, six Yemenis suspected of being members of al Qaeda were blown up in their car in the province of Marib by a Hellfire missile attack from an unmanned CIA RQ-1 Predator aircraft.


A Touch of Brimstone

Hellfire Club members Sebastian Shaw, Donald Pierce, Harry Leland, and Jason Wyngarde all have names and likenesses based on characters in the episode.

AGM-176 Griffin

The Hellfire trigger was used, with a pair of TEC-9 pistols, by the perpetrator of a 1993 mass shooting that killed nine people.

History of unmanned combat air vehicles

However, in the summer of 2003 a UAV "airshow" of sorts was conducted, in which a Firebee was displayed carrying two Hellfire anti-armor missiles, as well as a pod for dispensing remote battlefield sensors; apparently Northrop Grumman was running the idea up a flagpole to see if anyone would salute.
