Hurd's Deep (or Hurd Deep) is a deep underwater valley in the English Channel, north west of the Channel Islands, at position 49 degrees 30 minutes North, 3 degrees 34 minutes West.

The Hon Nick Hurd MP is eldest son of the Conservative Life Peer, Douglas, Lord Hurd of Westwell formerly Member of Parliament, Foreign Secretary and leadership contender under Baroness Thatcher and successively under Sir John Major.

From 1953 to 1954, Hurd, assisted by his protégés Manuel Acosta and John Meigs as well as his wife Henriette, painted a fresco mural in the rotunda of what was then the West Texas Museum (now Holden Hall) at Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock.
By Hurd's influence he was appointed in 1776 preceptor to the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York, and was made canon of Windsor.
This was apparently done without consulting Commodore Charles Hawkins who promptly sacked Hurd as commander upon his return from New York in April 1837.
Thacher Hurd is the son of children's book creators Clement Hurd and Edith Thacher Hurd.
