The Elgin O'Hare West Bypass, is a proposed, Interstate-standard tollway near Chicago that would run along the west side of O'Hare International Airport.
Shortly after entering Wright County, Route 5 forms a one-mile east-west concurrency with U.S. 60 (as a limited-access highway) in Mansfield.
Plans for the I-75 extension changed for two reasons; Alligator Alley needed upgrading as the then-narrow toll road was dangerous to both motorists and wildlife (most notably the Florida panther) alike; and State Road 836, with its left exits and narrow lanes, was not being built to Interstate Highway standards.

This section opened in 1992 and built (like all of its sections) to Interstate Highway standards (containing no traffic signals, crossroads, or businesses), was the first highway on the East Coast to be marked with metric measurements.
