Bhuvaneshvari

There are several temples dedicated to Bhuvaneshwari across India, however, the most important (Shakti Peetha) is located in Nainativu (Manipallavam) – off the shore of the Jaffna Peninsula in Northern Sri Lanka.

Manimekalai

The poem is set in both the harbour town of Kāveripattinam, the modern town of Puhar in Tamil Nadu, and in Nainatheevu of NākaNadu, a small sandy island of the Jaffna Peninsula in modern Sri Lanka.

Vadamarachchi Operation

Both Brig. (later Lt. Gen.) Denzil Kobbekaduwa and Col. (later Maj. Gen.) Vijaya Wimalaratne were killed on August 8, 1992, while making preparations for an operation to capture the Jaffna Peninsula.


Electoral districts of Sri Lanka
