Legislative district of Kalinga-Apayao

The Legislative District of Kalinga-Apayao was the representation of the Province of Kalinga-Apayao in the Philippine House of Representatives from 1969 to 1972, the Regular Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986, and again in the House of Representatives from 1987 until 1998, when Apayao and Kalinga—the provinces it was divided into on 14 February 1995—were each granted their own representation.

Kalinga under the Mauryan

Ashoka and Kalinga Ashok (son of Vindusara) wanted to annex Kalinga with Magadha for commercial reasons, although some folktales indicates that he invaded for personal reason, but primarily commercial reason is most prominent.

Because Kalinga has many sea ports which Magadha lacks and Kalinga is between north and south part of India and main trade routes goes through it, Ashoka attacked Kalinga in 261 B.C. and an epic fight occurred between two armies near the river Daya.

During the era of Chandragupta and Vindusara, Kalinga enjoyed its freedom as a separate and independent state, although it is not sure whether it was ruled by one king or as a group of kingdoms or any democratic form of government.

A rock inscription made by Nissanka Malla at Dambulla mentions that he is of the Kalinga Dynasty and a descendant from the race of King Vijaya.

Oothukadu

It is believed that sage Naradha witnessed the Kalinga Narthanam that Lord Krishna performed in front of the divine cows Nandini and Patti, children of Kamadhenu.

Paika akhada

Paika akhada is said to have been practiced in ancient Kalinga, where it was used to keep the warrior class physically and mentally fit.

The lip-valley flutes in the Philippines are known by different names: abalao, abellao, sinongyop (Bontoc); balding, paldong, enoppok, innupok (Kalinga); tipano, kipano, paldeng (Isneg); and taladi (Ibaloi); palendag (Maguindanao); palalu (Mansaka); Palandag (Bagobo).
