Born in Sá da Bandeira, Portuguese Angola, Vidigal moved to Portugal at an early age, and started his footballing career with amateurs O Elvas CAD, moving in 1994 to the second division with G.D. Estoril-Praia.
He split the following season between another two teams, C.F. Os Belenenses in the Portuguese second level and Cercle Brugge KSV in Belgium, both still on loan from Sporting; he appeared in only 11 league matches for the two clubs combined.
In the 2010 summer, after only four second level games in the campaign, 31-year-old Sociedade left his main club and signed for Santiago Futebol Clube, an amateur side in the island of São Miguel, in his birth region.
Subsequently, Paulão played four years in the second division with Sporting de Espinho, after which he returned to his homeland to play with Atlético Petróleos Luanda and Atlético Sport Aviação, retiring in 2004 at the age of nearly 35.
