In 1968, she went to London and joined (as Maggie Nichols) an early improvisational group, the Spontaneous Music Ensemble, with John Stevens, Trevor Watts, and Johnny Dyani, and the group performed that year at Berlin's then new avant-garde festival, Total Music Meeting.

The label was founded by musician/producer Paul Jolly, whose previous work includes playing with '70's progressive rock band Sweet Slag, and leading improvising musicians such as Maggie Nicols, the Loverly Band, the People Band and EAWO. His professional work included tours of Europe and the Far East. He also appeared, playing as a member of the Kraków Jazz Ensemble, in the Mike Figgis film 'Stormy Monday' which featured Sting, Melanie Griffiths & Tommy Lee Jones.
She has performed and recorded numerous solo piano performances as well as performing as part of the Feminist Improvising Group, whose members include Lindsay Cooper, Maggie Nichols, Georgie Born and Sally Potter.
