Born in Rome as Giovanna Giardina, she made her film debut in a French film, Georges Lautner's En plein cirage and later starred both in Italian and in French productions, working with Sergio Sollima, Bernard Borderie, Marco Ferreri, Lucio Fulci.

Monreale has worked with directors Lucio Fulci, Joe D'Amato and Vittotio Sindoni on more than one occasion and has also worked with Stefano Vanzina ("Steno"), Bruno Bozzetto, Marco Ferreri, and Corrado Colombo.
Born in Rome, Piazzoli began working for the Italian movie industry in the early 1960s as a cameraman, under the direction of Vittorio De Sica, Damiano Damiani, Marco Ferreri, Florestano Vancini, Mauro Bolognini, Dino Risi and Pasquale Festa Campanile.
His film credits include Marco Ferreri's La Dernière femme (U.S. title: The Last Woman) (1976), Dario Argento's Inferno (1980) and Phenomena (1985), Troll (1986), a remake of Roman Holiday (1987) (produced for American television) and four of the movies in the Fantaghirò series.
