The last song played on "California 103" was "Like a Lover" by Emilie-Claire Barlow and the first song played by "XL103 FM" was "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John according to Nielsen BDS.
Mediabase and Nielsen BDS will continue to describe the station as Adult Top 40.
At first, KOPW was reported to R&R as an urban contemporary station, but has since started adding artists like Lady Gaga, 3OH!3, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, David Guetta and Britney Spears to its playlist and has evolved to a broader Rhythmic direction, and in October 2009 was added to both Mediabase and Nielsen BDS' Rhythmic panels.
However, as of May 2013, KVIL has leaned more hot adult contemporary/Adult Top 40 with the recent format tweaking to music from the 1990s to right now known on-air as "The New Sound of 103.7 KVIL" (the station is still listed as "AC" according to Mediabase & Nielsen BDS).
By 2012, WBBM-FM was moved to the Mediabase contemporary hit radio panel; however, it continued to report to the Nielsen BDS rhythmic contemporary panel until November 2012 when BDS moved the station back to the Mainstream Top 40 panel.
Mediabase & Arbitron now report WQBK-FM/WQBJ as an active rock station, replacing WZMR; while Nielsen BDS reports the station on the mainstream rock panel as of 2012, meaning active rock was pretty much replaced by mainstream rock on this station.
Nielsen BDS also uses the service to track monitored airplay at satellite radio (Sirius XM), internet services (like Yahoo! and AOL) and audio networks (like Dial Global, Music Choice and Radio Disney), as well as on TV (12 U.S. music video channels and 9 Canadian video channels).
