On 30 October 2009 Secretary of State for Transport Lord Adonis announced a plan to increase frequency on the line by allowing Hertfordshire County Council to lease the line from Network Rail and converting it to light rail from 2011.

Austin Ambassador

A fleet of red Austin Ambassadors was shown on a production line in a 1982 Not the Nine O'Clock News skit – all the actor employees on the line, including Rowan Atkinson, were known as Bob.

Ballysadare railway station

Ballysadare station was on the Midland Great Western Railway which became part of Irish Rail and it was served by the last independent railway in the British Isles, being the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway on the line to Enniskillen.

Bellavista railway station

Bellavista is the principle intermediate station on the line, and at one time the junction point for the Tramway Bellavista.

Bordeaux Tramway Line C

Line C was prolonged towards Grand Parc on 19 November 2007 pending completion of important work brought about by the replacement Cracovie bridge on the line in Médoc, then to the north terminus les Aubiers station on 27 February 2008 and also towards Terres Neuves (Bègles) 27 February 2008.

Botanic Gardens railway station

Miller also designed the next station on the line at Kelvinbridge and went on to design the main buildings for the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition in nearby Kelvingrove Park and the interiors of the famous Clyde-built ocean liners, the RMS Lusitania in 1907 and RMS Aquitania in 1914.

Brunswick Southern Railway

All railways between Helmstedt (Brunswick–Magdeburg railway) and Walkenried (South Harz Railway) were disrupted at the Inner-German border, including the Jerxheim crossing on the line from Magdeburg via Eilsleben and Oschersleben.

Due to the re-opening of the Ebbw Valley Railway, Cross Keys railway station was one of six stations opened on the line in February 2008.

Defiance, Missouri

Because there was already a Parsons, Kansas on the Katy line, settlers considered other names, including Missouriton and Bluff City, before deciding on Defiance because of the hamlet's defiance of rival Matson, Missouri to get a station on the line.

JR Kyoto Line

Laguna Sur metro station

Nerstrand, Minnesota

Nuremberg–Cheb railway

Since the timetable change on 10 December 2006, the Franken-Sachsen-Express Interregio-Express service operates on the line, using class 612 diesel multiple units (DMUs), from Nuremberg via Bayreuth or Marktredwitz to Hof, continuing via Chemnitz to Dresden, replacing an InterCity service.

Port Whitby and Port Perry Railway

The last service to run on the line was a special passenger-only service to Toronto to bring well-wishers to the Royal Tour of 1939 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Rothersthorpe

This was for safety reasons following projected speed increases to 125 miles per hour on the line by Virgin Trains' tilting Pendolino trains.

Rudgwick railway station

Rudgwick station opened in November 1865, one month after the rest of the stations on the line, due to objections made by the Board of Trade's Colonel Yolland following the obligatory inspection of the line on 2 May in that year.

Saarbrücken Railway

Two years later, on 16 November 1852, passenger trains ran on the line, known as the Forbach Railway, via Sulzbach, Dudweiler and St. Johann-Saarbrücken to reach the French border at Forbach.

Sallaumines

Sallaumines has a train station (Gare de Sallaumines) on the line from Lens to Lille, and another one (Gare de Pont-de-Sallaumines) on the line from Lens to Valenciennes.

Scammonden Reservoir

Material excavated elsewhere on the line of the motorway, clay from cuttings between Lofthouse and Gildersome, and 3.4 million cubic metres from the Deanhead excavations was used to build the dam's embankment which is 625 metres in length and 63.1 metres above the original valley floor.

Severn and Wye Railway

Freight services on the line lasted much longer than passenger; the Lydbrook arm closed completely in 1956, (the line had been near dormant for several years before), the branch to Coleford and Whitecliff Quarry closed in 1967 and the section to Parkend finally closed in 1976.

It is also thought that it was built as a strategic road when the northern frontier was on the line of the Forth and Clyde, and only later became part of the frontier when the Romans withdrew from what is now Scotland.

The Stockholm metro runs electrically using a third rail with a nominal operating voltage of 650 V DC on line 13,14, 17, 18 and 19,and 750 V DC on the line 10 and 11.

Thommie Walsh

He co-wrote a book with Baayork Lee, another Chorus Line cast member, about the musical's origins and evolution, entitled On the Line, which was published by William Morrow in 1990.

Union Mills railway station

The railway station at Union Mills on the Isle of Man Railway was the first official stop for trains on the line; it boasted a long winding platform on the "up" side and the station gardens were well known locally for their beautiful displays that were tended by the station master and his staff.

Union Pacific North Line

Club membership was once limited to wealthy male commuters from affluent North Shore towns such as Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Highland Park, but is now open to any commuter on the line for a $900 annual membership fee.

West Anglia Main Line

These were replaced by Class 317 Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) and in 2014 passenger services on the line mostly use Class 315s or Class 317s and brand new Bombardier Class 379s.

WNRG-FM

On September 7, 2012, at 10AM, after playing "What Might Have Been" by Little Texas and the first minute and a half of "The Thunder Rolls" by Garth Brooks (which began repeating on the line "When the thunder rolls/and the lightning strikes..." before grinding to a halt that led into energizing sound effects featuring thunder and lightning), WZBK changed their format to Rhythmic Top 40, branded as "Energy 106.9".

Wyndham Branch

Ford Model T bus equipment was used as the basis for two railcars in 1925, and in May 1926, the RM class Model T Ford railcars began providing a service on the line as well as on the Waikaia Branch.
