During their time at UT, Wynne and his brother Bedford S. Wynne became brothers of the Texas Alpha chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
He quickly became a dominant rider and was recruited by the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
He also joined both the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Irving Literary Society.
At Cornell University, Bruere joined the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and through that organization was a member of the Irving Literary Society, all before transferring to the University of Chicago to complete his undergraduate studies.
Additionally, the Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Theta, Phi Kappa Psi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity chapters received interim suspensions as a result of the operation.
He was twenty years old when Phi Kappa Psi was founded by him and his colleague Charles Page Thomas Moore.

Charles Page Thomas Moore (February 8, 1831 – July 7, 1904) was a co-founder of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity in 1852 at Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College) in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
He joined the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at Cornell, and through that organization, the Irving Literary Society.
While at Creighton, Lannon was also an active member in the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Siegel was born and raised in Maryland and attended York College of Pennsylvania, where he was a regular commentator for WVYC and a founding member of the Pennsylvania Rho Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi.
Breaking Away was written by Steve Tesich, an Indiana University graduate who served as an alternate rider on the Phi Kappa Psi Little 500 Team in 1962.
