Student Teal Van Dyck won second place in the national Poetry Out Loud in 2006, earning a $10,000 scholarship.
Other honors went to Teal Van Dyck of Bow High School in New Hampshire, who won second place and a $10,000 scholarship.

The Poetry Out Loud recitation contest was created in 2006 by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts to increase awareness of poetry through performance and competition.
In addition to detailed information about the California Arts Council's current grants and programs, including application instructions, the website includes links and information to grants from other agencies and foundations, arts jobs postings, arts news and links to articles of interest, information about California Poetry Out Loud, festivals around the state, events such as California Arts Day (which occurs on the first Friday of October, National Arts & Humanities Month), and much more.
A new generation began at Casa del Lago when notorious figures such as José Luis Ibáñez, Leonora Carrington, Juan Soriano, Octavio Paz and even Juan José Arreola, who along with Miguel Gonzalez Avelar, to name a few, began to promote Poetry Out Loud, Chess Tournaments and the Philatelic Club.
