By a Bull of Pope Innocent X he was empowered to unite the Dioceses of Grasse and Vence under his administration, but seeing the dissatisfaction of the clergy of the latter diocese, he relinquished the former and established himself at Vence.
This project dated back to 1670, when it was instigated by the secretary of Propaganda Fide, Monsignor Baldeschi, who, along with Cardinal Altieri, were among his most influential friends and contacts in the city.
Through her mother she was the grand-niece of Pope Innocent X and through her father she was the grand-niece of Pope Gregory XV.
