This marine species occurs in the Indian Ocean off Port Alfred, South Africa to Mozambique and in the Mascarene Basin.
Three species are recognized, D. pulchra Hoeg 1930 (from the Bloukrans River in the Knysna district, Ceres Subgroup, Lower Bokkeveld Group), D. alfreda Plumstead 1967 (Port Alfred, Weltevrede Subgroup, Lower Witteberg Group) and D. maraisia Plumstead 1967 (Howisons Poort, Witpoort Sandstone, Middle Witteberg Group).

Pavoclinus laurentii, the Rippled klipfish, is a species of clinid found from Inhambane, Mozambique to Port Alfred, South Africa where it prefers weed-grown tide pools.
It can be controlled by Triclopyr or biological control with the leaf-feeding flea-beetle, Phenrica guérini, which has caused significant damage to Pereskia plants at Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa, but although the beetle was also released widely in KwaZulu-Natal, it has not become established there.
Later, in 1860, when Queen Victoria’s son Prince Alfred visited, the name was changed in his honour.
The Yellow teardrop butterflyfish, Chaetodon interruptus, is a butterflyfish of the family Chaetodontidae found in the Indian ocean from East Africa (south to Port Alfred, South Africa), to Sumatra, Indonesia.
