2 unusual facts about Roberts International Airport

He was a graduate of the University of Conakry and an army school in Thies, Senegal. He and several military officials were killed on February 11, 2013, when their CASA 235 crashed near the town of Charlesville, near Harbel, Liberia, about 8 kilometers away from Roberts International Airport.

In the late 1970s and into the early 1980s, the airport became Pan Am's principal African hub, with a non-stop service from New York JFK connecting at Robertsfield to such destinations as Dakar, Accra, Abidjan, Lagos, and Conakry, among others, and continuing on to Nairobi and even at times Johannesburg, so that for many years virtually every Pan Am passenger to Africa passed through Robertsfield.

On 11 Feb 2013 a CN-235 crashed into a forest 45km south of Monrovia, Liberia, 8km to Roberts International Airport, killing 11 people amongst them Souleymane Kelefa Diallo Guinea army chief.
