Augusto Giacometti (August 16, 1877 – June 9, 1947) was a Swiss painter from Stampa, Graubünden, cousin of Giovanni Giacometti who was the father of Alberto, Diego and Bruno Giacometti.
He also dedicated a monograph to Chillida, and to Palazuelo, and wrote prefaces for many exhibitions catalogs of painters such as Raoul Ubac, Vieira da Silva, Arpad Szenes, Fermín Aguayo, Giorgio Morandi, Josef Sima, Bacon, Giacometti, Braque, Le Brocquy, Chagall, etc. (Most of these texts were published again in volumes, see infra).
It is less probable that it is a toponimic from Como, because there are many similar surnames that maintain the original stem, such as: Giacomino, Giacomelli, Giacomolli, Giacometti, Jacobellis, Jacobacci and so on.
His early works appear metallic and thin, while his current works are seen as having "a decidedly feminine character and deals with a sculptural volume that is more Botero than Giacometti."
At the end of the war, graduated from the Rome Fine Arts Academy, he moved to Paris, where he mixed with artists such as Matisse, Severini, Giacometti, and Manessier.
