Numerous exhibitions have been presented at the gallery, including the works of Monet, Degas, Cézanne, Renoir, Pissarro, Bonnard, Tanguy, Léger, Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse, Rauschenberg, Sisley, Feininger, Giacometti, and Miró.
The picturesqueness of the village, as well as its proximity and railway connection to Paris, made it a popular destination for artists and during the mid- to late-nineteenth-century an influx of painters, such as Daubigny, Cézanne, Pissarro, Daumier and Corot, saw the village become an artist’s colony comparable to Barbizon.
This work has an influence of Pointillism which Pissarro tested as an emerging "scientific" theory of art before creating this work.
Pissarro then chose to leave his family and job and live in Venezuela, where he and Melbye spent the next two years working as artists in Caracas.
The Eva and Brian Sweeney Collection currently consists of about 500 works by artists such as Monet, Sisley, Pissarro, Klimt, Khnopff, Alma-Tadema, Klee, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Cornell, Rauschenberg, Doig, Zach Houston, Warhol, Close and Estes.
The Montague Shearman Collection contains such famous painters as Picasso, Dalí, Matisse, Utrillo, Sisley, Pissarro, Monet, Renoir, Lautrec, Rowlandson and many others.
Artists, such as Renoir, van Gogh, and Pissarro have immortalized Le Moulin de la Galette; likely the most notable was Renoir's festive painting, Bal du moulin de la Galette.
