Ascension wrasse

The Ascension wrasse, Thalassoma ascensionis, is a species of wrasse native to the eastern Atlantic Ocean, where it is known from St. Helena, Ascension Island, and São Tomé.

Asiento

Following the establishment of the Portuguese colony of Angola in 1575, and the gradual replacement of São Tomé by Brazil as the primary producers of sugar, Angolan interests came to dominate the trade, and it was Portuguese financiers and merchants who obtained the larger scale, comprehensive asiento that was established in 1595.

Dwarf wrasse

The dwarf wrasse, Doratonotus megalepis, is a species of wrasse native to tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean from Florida, USA, to Brazil and in the eastern Atlantic from around Ile Las Rolas, São Tomé.

Eccopsis praecedens

It is found in western, central, eastern and southern Africa, including the islands of São Tomé, Cape Verde, Madagascar and Réunion.

Guinea Company of Scotland

The company made only a single voyage, of two ships; one returned, whilst the other was seized by Portuguese forces at São Tomé and its crew killed.
