This reading tour visited places as far and wide as Wigtown, Ullapool, Inverness, Edinburgh, Stirling, Lanark and Glasgow and was supported by the Scottish Arts Council.
He was the Visual Arts Director at the Scottish Arts Council and for eight years he was the Exhibitions Director at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.
It was established with a grant from the Scottish Arts Council, as a result of an initiative by its chairman Richard Holloway, for the purpose of breaking the cycle of poverty in the economically depressed area of Raploch, in Stirling, where male life expectancy is less than 63 years.
A board member and former Chairman of the Traverse Theatre (1972–76), Laurie is also a past Chairman and Trustee of WASPS Trust (Workshop and Artists' Studio Provision Scotland) and a former member of the Drama Panel, Scottish Arts Council (1973–82) and of the Scottish Arts Council (1976-82.) He is also a former Trustee of the Scottish Civic Trust and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
During this time, Lou was given a grant by the Scottish Arts Council to record her debut album, but this was eventually put on hold so Lou could pursue a new project called Codeine Velvet Club.
