The Bridgeman Baronetcy, of Ridley in the County of Chester, was created on 12 November 1773 for Orlando Bridgeman, Member of Parliament for Horsham and younger son of the 1st Baronet, of the Great Lever creation.
For over 50 years Copley has been the partner of John Hugh Chadwyck-Healey (born 1922), grandson of Charles Chadwyck-Healey, 1st Baronet.
Sir Francis was a great-grandson of Sir Nicholas Throckmorton, who had changed his name to Carew on inheriting the Beddington estate from his maternal uncle, Sir Francis Carew (died 1611).
He was hostile to the Protestant Reformation, and is said to have suffered from Thomas Cromwell's antipathy; but his name appears in important state trials of the period: in that of the Carthusian monks and John Fisher (1535), of Weston, Norris, Lord Rochford, and Anne Boleyn (May 1536), and Sir Geoffrey Pole, Sir Edward Neville, and Sir Nicholas Carew (1538–9).
Pollock was the fifth son of Mr George Pollock, fourth son of Sir Frederick Pollock (1st Baronet, of Hatton) (elder brother of Field Marshal Sir George Pollock, 1st Baronet, of The Khyber Pass).
