Solomon Blatt, Sr. (1895–1986), speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives
While at the University, Blatt was a member on the boxing team and competed in the lightweight class.

As a trustee, Blatt served on the athletic committee and was instrumental in getting Frank McGuire to become the basketball coach at the University.
Blatt married Ethel Green on March 20, 1920 and they had one son, Solomon Blatt, Jr. Blatt served for 53 consecutive years in the legislature and was honored by the Council of State Governments as the longest serving state legislator in the nation.
