The Geleen Smoke Eaters, named after the Trail Smoke Eaters, played their first game against Amsterdam on November 2, 1968.

The senior team also won two Ice Hockey World Championships playing for Canada in 1939 and 1961; they were the last independent ice hockey club to represent Canada in international competition before the Canada men's national ice hockey team was established in 1963.


Jeff Tambellini

Tambellini's grandfather, Addie Tambellini, was a member of the Trail Smoke Eaters who were the last Canadian amateur team to win the World Championships in 1961.
