Transpower reached agreement with Transit in 2005 for the installation of cable supports beneath the bridge for 220 kV power cables as part of a major project to improve the security of electricity transmission to North Auckland and Northland.
On 16 May 2013, national grid owner Transpower applied for consent to the Kapiti Coast District Council to rebuild its Valley Road, Paraparaumu substation to 220 kV and build two short transmission lines to connect it to the two Bunnythorpe to Haywards 220 kV lines to the east.
