The small city's growing population led to the introduction of a number of other religious orders in this area, notably the Catalan Brotherhood of the Virgin of Montserrat, whose chapel became the neighborhood namesake in 1769.

The most important work of art in the cathedral by far however is the triptych of the Madonna di Montserrat, the Annunciation to the Virgin of Montserrat, the work of the 15th century Spanish painter Bartolomé Bermejo, in the chapter house.
After that Margaret made pilgrimages to the Virgin of Montserrat in Spain, and then to Our Lady of Le Puy in Le Puy-en-Velay, in the Auvergne region of France.
