The Karlsruhe—Heidelberg section of the Rhine Valley Railway was opened on 15 April 1843 as part of the construction of the Baden Mainline from Mannheim via Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden and Freiburg to Basel, which was initially built to 1600 mm broad gauge.

Karl Hermann Zahn (3 December 1865, Baiertal – 8 February 1940, Haigerloch) was a German botanist who was a leading authority regarding the genus Hieracium (hawkweed).
Wiesloch was attacked on January 28, 1689 by French troops under Ezéchiel du Mas, Comte de Mélac, during the Nine Years' War, and was almost completely burnt down and destroyed.
